Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content Policy

Journal “Chemistry, Physics and Technology of Surface” recognizes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scholarly communication and establishes clear guidelines for their responsible and transparent use.

The journal follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) regarding the use of AI in scientific publishing.

 

General Principles

Artificial intelligence tools, including large language models and generative AI systems, may be used by authors only as supportive tools during manuscript preparation.

AI tools must not be used to generate or manipulate research data, statistical results, or scientific interpretations.

AI tools cannot replace human responsibility for the content, interpretation, and integrity of scholarly work.

Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to the journal.

 

Permitted Use of AI Tools

AI tools may be used for:

  • language editing and grammar correction;
  • improving readability and clarity of text;
  • formatting assistance;
  • checking terminology consistency;
  • preliminary organization or summarization of literature (with author verification).

All AI-assisted outputs must be carefully reviewed and verified by the authors.

 

Prohibited Use of AI Tools

AI tools must NOT be used for:

  • generating scientific data or experimental results;
  • creating or falsifying research findings;
  • providing references or citations that have not been verified;
  • replacing the intellectual contribution of the authors;
  • submitting AI-generated content without human review and validation.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility or accountability for the work.

 

Disclosure Requirement

Authors must disclose any use of AI tools during manuscript preparation.

A disclosure statement should be included in the manuscript, for example:

“The authors used [name of AI tool] for language editing and/or text improvement. The authors take full responsibility for the content of this manuscript.”

Failure to disclose relevant AI assistance may result in:

  • rejection of the manuscript;
  • post-publication corrections;
  • retraction of the article in serious cases.

 

Responsibility and Accountability

Authors bear full responsibility for:

  • the accuracy of all data and interpretations;
  • the integrity of citations and references;
  • the originality of the manuscript;
  • verification of any AI-generated content.

Editors and reviewers are not responsible for detecting undisclosed AI use, but they may raise concerns if AI-generated content is suspected.

 

Use of AI Tools by the Editorial Office

Editorial staff and reviewers may use AI tools only for administrative or technical purposes, such as:

  • supporting language clarity (not editorial decision-making);
  • assisting in plagiarism detection;
  • formatting or workflow optimization.

AI tools are not used to make editorial decisions.

The journal continuously updates its policies in accordance with evolving global standards concerning the use of artificial intelligence in scholarly publishing.

 

Policy Updates

The Editorial Board reserves the right to revise this policy in response to developments in artificial intelligence technologies and international publication ethics recommendations.
