Research interests and activities of Dr. Jaroniec revolve primarily around interdisciplinary topics of interfacial chemistry, and chemistry of nanomaterials. His research is mainly focused on physical adsorption at the gas/solid and liquid/solid interfaces; synthesis, modification, and characterization of adsorbents, catalysts, and most recently, ordered nanoporous materials and photocatalysts. During his employment at Kent State University, he has established a vigorous research program in the area of advanced nanomaterials. His most current research includes synthesis, modification, characterization, and application of novel ordered nanoporous materials, such as surfactant- and polymer-templated ordered mesoporous silicas, organosilicas, metal oxides, and carbons as well as graphene, carbon nitride and related carbon nanostructures for adsorption, catalysis, photocatalysis, environmental and energy-related applications. He has established successful collaborations in this area with a number of academic and industrial researchers in the United States, as well as with scientists from countries such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Korea, Poland and the Ukraine.
According to Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) on February 9, 2019 his publication statistics is as follows: Results found: 971
Sum of the Times Cited: 59,356
Number without self-citations 53,711
Citing articles 34,885
Citing articles without self-cit 34,023
Average Citations per Item: 61.13
H-index: 111
Thus, according to the Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science) he has over 53,700 citations (without self-citations) and H-index = 111 (Google Scholar HI = 124; Scopus HI= 115).
In 2001 he was listed in top 100 scientists worldwide in materials science, and highly cited researcher in materials science (2001), in 2015 and 2016 as highly cited researcher in Chemistry, and in 2017 and 2018 he is listed as highly cited researcher in two disciplines, chemistry and materials science; also, the 2017-Highly-Cited-Researchers-Report was released, which on page 5 provides a table with 21 names of Scientists with Multiple Hot Papers; in this table his name is listed too.
